📚 Guided Certification Catalogue

Last updated: 2026-04-24
Purpose: Source of truth for the current Guided certification landscape before catalogue and redesign work.

Snapshot

As of this check, Guided has:

Metric Count
Total certs in registry 126
Live certs 124
Coming soon placeholders 2
Module-backed certs 35
Quiz-only certs 91

Important model difference

  • Microsoft is the only vendor family with study-guide/module-backed experiences
  • All other vendor families are currently quiz-only practice certs
  • AI-200 and SC-500 are the current coming-soon placeholders, not live learning experiences

Platform decisions that matter

1. Microsoft is special in Guided

Microsoft certs are not just quiz cards. They are the full Guided learning model:

  • domain/module pages
  • study-guide flow
  • richer content architecture
  • Microsoft-first UX assumptions

Everything outside Microsoft is currently handled as:

  • TOML metadata in src/content/certs/
  • question JSON files in src/data/questions/
  • dynamic practice route via /[cert]/practice/

2. Non-Microsoft vendors are quiz-first

Current non-Microsoft vendors on platform:

  • AWS
  • GCP
  • Cisco
  • ISC2
  • CompTIA
  • ISACA
  • EC-Council
  • CNCF
  • HashiCorp
  • Fortinet
  • Palo Alto
  • Juniper

These are practice-first certs, not full module experiences.

3. Some starter prompt names are intentionally not one-to-one with Guided slugs

This is not always a real gap. The biggest causes are:

  • Cisco prompt names use fuller exam-code names, while Guided slugs are shorter
  • example: cisco-encor-350-401 prompt vs cisco-encor in Guided
  • Fortinet prompt names use descriptive names, while Guided slugs use short codes
  • example: fortinet-nse5-fortimanager prompt vs fortinet-nse5-fmg
  • CompTIA Data+ was intentionally updated from DA0-001 to DA0-002

4. Microsoft prompt buckets were intentionally split

The session-state prompt inventory was organized into:

  • Microsoft-Active — certs already live in Guided
  • Microsoft-toBuild — certs intentionally deferred but still planned
  • Microsoft-Retired — certs intentionally removed from future build scope

Current Microsoft decisions:

Bucket Certs
To build later AI-200, SC-500
Deferred / not prioritized right now MB-230, MB-310
Intentionally retired / skipped AB-210, AB-250, AB-410, PL-100, SC-730

Current vendor stock

Vendor Count Model
Microsoft 37 Study guides/modules + placeholders
CompTIA 17 Quiz-only
AWS 15 Quiz-only
Cisco 11 Quiz-only
GCP 11 Quiz-only
ISC2 10 Quiz-only
CNCF 5 Quiz-only
ISACA 5 Quiz-only
EC-Council 3 Quiz-only
Fortinet 3 Quiz-only
HashiCorp 3 Quiz-only
Palo Alto 3 Quiz-only
Juniper 3 Quiz-only

Health check — 2026-04-24

Passed

  • Guided build completed successfully
  • Learning Portal docs build completed successfully
  • New batch practice pages were generated into dist
  • The following certs were confirmed with question JSONs and built practice output:
  • juniper-jncia-junos
  • juniper-jncis-ent
  • juniper-jncip-sec
  • paloalto-netsec-analyst
  • previously confirmed: isaca-cisa, isaca-cgeit, hashicorp-vault-associate, cisco-encor, aws-clf-c02

Fixed in this validation pass

  1. Explore routing for quiz-only certs
  2. quiz-only certs now route to /{cert}/practice/ instead of the broken /{cert}/

  3. Recovered missing Juniper registry entry

  4. juniper-jncis-ent had practice JSONs and built output but no TOML registry entry
  5. a matching registry file was added so it can appear properly in the Guided catalogue

Known catalogue limitations still worth addressing in redesign

  1. Category filters are Microsoft-heavy
  2. Explore filter chips still only foreground a small subset of categories
  3. the catalogue needs a redesign that better reflects the now-multi-vendor footprint

  4. Coming-soon placeholders are not real learning routes

  5. AI-200 and SC-500 are placeholders for future Microsoft build work, not live study-guide or quiz experiences

  6. Starter prompt parity is mostly clean, but naming drift remains

  7. Cisco and Fortinet prompt naming does not always match Guided slugs directly
  8. this is a catalogue bookkeeping issue, not necessarily a content gap

Parity check against starter prompts

Current parity snapshot

Metric Count
Starter prompt certs 129
Guided certs 126
Directly matched after normalization 112
Prompt-only entries 17
Guided-only entries 14

What the numbers actually mean

Most of the remaining mismatch is not a real platform gap.

Intentional prompt-only items

  • Microsoft-toBuild
  • ai200
  • sc500

  • Microsoft deferred

  • mb230
  • mb310

  • Microsoft-Retired

  • ab210
  • ab250
  • ab410
  • pl100
  • sc730

Naming mismatch prompt-only items

  • Cisco prompt names
  • cisco-ccie-enterprise
  • cisco-ccna-200-301
  • cisco-clcor-350-801
  • cisco-cyberops-200-201
  • cisco-dccor-350-601
  • cisco-devasc-200-901
  • cisco-devcor-350-901
  • cisco-encor-350-401
  • cisco-scor-350-701
  • cisco-spcor-350-501

  • Fortinet prompt names

  • fortinet-nse5-fortimanager
  • fortinet-nse7-enterprise-firewall

After the Juniper recovery, there is no real Juniper build gap left in Guided for this batch.

Guided-only entries

  • Cisco short slugs:
  • cisco-ccie-ei
  • cisco-ccna
  • cisco-clcor
  • cisco-cyberops
  • cisco-dccor
  • cisco-devasc
  • cisco-devcor
  • cisco-encor
  • cisco-scor
  • cisco-spcor
  • Fortinet short slugs:
  • fortinet-nse5-fmg
  • fortinet-nse7-efw
  • Microsoft special cases:
  • ab-900
  • mb-800

Practical conclusion

For actual delivery tracking, the platform is effectively at parity with the intended first-wave cert work.

The remaining deltas are mostly:

  • intentional non-build Microsoft certs
  • prompt naming drift vs live Guided slugs
  • legacy Microsoft certs that predate the current starter-prompt organisation

What was intentionally removed or deferred

Intentionally removed from future Microsoft build scope

  • AB-210
  • AB-250
  • AB-410
  • PL-100
  • SC-730

These were sorted into the Microsoft-Retired bucket to avoid accidental future rebuilds.

Intentionally deferred for later build

  • AI-200
  • SC-500

These remain in Microsoft-toBuild.

Deferred and removed from the public placeholder set

  • MB-230
  • MB-310

These are still active Microsoft exams, but they are not current Guided build priorities and were removed from the public coming-soon placeholders to avoid confusion.

What to focus on next

The next Guided phase should not be another huge cert batch immediately.

The better move is:

  1. Catalogue cleanup

    • make quiz-only vs study-guide certs explicit
    • normalize naming where helpful
    • keep public coming-soon placeholders aligned to the real short-term build queue
  2. Guided redesign

  3. rework Explore/category IA for a multi-vendor catalogue
  4. make the Microsoft vs non-Microsoft product shape obvious
  5. improve landing and discoverability for quiz-only certs

  6. Later cert batches

  7. resume remaining vendor work only after catalogue UX and platform structure are easier to maintain
